Liberatory Conversation #3: Seed of Resistance
Following the thread of our Afrika Day discussion, Restoring Afrikan Indigenous Food Systems for Reclamation of Our Humanity, where we built a living archive of taste, storytelling, memory, and resistance around seeds, our next Liberatory Conversation – Seed of Resistance – will explore three dimensions of seed in the South Afrikan struggle for food sovereignty.
Join Down2Earth’s Daliwonga Pantshwa and Enviro Solutions Centre’s Mikal Lambert in conversation where we will unpack the legal, agricultural and ecological dimensions of the seed. We’ll explore which laws protect or undermine farmer seed rights, why farmer-led seed systems are critical to sovereignty and how restoring traditional relationships to seed supports cultural and ecological healing.

Liberatory Conversation #2: Xenoconomics
In a co-hosted webinar with Black City Culture, we will examine Xenoconomics, a field that investigates how migrant communities leverage economic strategies to survive and thrive despite challenges, from both a lived experience perspective and through engaging with academic literature.
The webinar is intended to surface the economic survival strategies of migrant entrepreneurs, with a focus on ‘informal’ and typically undervalued endeavours like vending and operating spaza shops in the South Afrikan context.

Restoring Afrikan indigenous food systems for reclamation of our humanity
May marks Afrika month - a moment for the continent to pause, reflect, and celebrate our unique Afrikan identity and cultural expression. Afrika Day is celebrated annually to commemorate the founding of the Organisation of Afrikan Unity (OAU), founded on 25 May 1963.
With our partners, The Forge, The Peoples Pantry and CAMP, we are hosting an Afrika Day event to contribute to a body of work that emphasises dialogical action.

AFRIKAN LIBERATION GATHERING 2024
The Afrikan Liberation Gathering was a free, one-day festival that brought together Pan-Afrikan activists, thought leaders, creatives, and changemakers from across Southern Afrika and beyond. For our inaugural Gathering, our focus was on economic systems change and decolonial justice—rooted in Afrikan values of Ubuntu, collective prosperity, and radical engagement.
Through roundtable discussions, performances, and marketplace activations, we celebrated our diverse cultural heritage, amplified indigenous knowledge, and built community pathways towards a liberated future by exploring the ties between land, Afrikan liberation, and the role of alternative economic paradigms in securing justice for all.
